Some words from Sarah Charles...
I visited Blessed Generation for the first time in 2007 and witnessed the life saving work being carried out by the dedicated team of staff. On the day before our arrival a baby girl had arrived at the centre and had become the 102nd child to be cared for – the name given to the child was Blessed Bahati.
Whilst I was at the centre I visited the classrooms and spoke with the amazing staff who give their time to care for the children and to educate them so they can improve their lives through self help. The Centre isn't just about teaching; it is about preparing the children for the future and to enable them to have better lives through education.
The Centre is also a loving and caring home for children who have been rescued from poverty. The staff make sure they are fed and kept safe and receive the medical care they need on site.
I was given the opportunity to visit the nearby village where the Centre also looks after 43 families through its Outreach Programme. These families are living in the poorest of conditions and they receive fortnightly food parcels and medical help which at least allows them to survive. I was very moved by my experience in the village but also very shocked and saddened at the conditions which were being endured.
Since then, back home in the UK I have organised various charity events to raise money for the children. I have climbed Mount Snowdon in Wales, held Garage Sales, taken part in local sponsored walks and a number of my colleagues have set up direct debits which are sent direct to Blessed Generation. I am now in the process of sponsoring one of the outreach children which will begin in August. This will make sure that the child is able to attend school and receive clothing and school books and more importantly to let the child know they are being cared for by someone.
We have so much to be grateful for in the Western world. The support which I have been able to give to Blessed Generation is only a fraction of what is needed but I am certain that it really makes a difference. I have witnessed at first hand the remarkable work being carried out with these children and families and I am very privileged to be able to help out in this way.
I would encourage anyone reading this message to contact the Centre directly or if you would like to contact me you can email me at sarahjones1997@hotmail.com and I will be very pleased to hear from you.
